Breath of Fire IV: Yōsei-tachi to Hikari no Kagi (lit. Breath of Fire IV: The Faeries and the Key of Light) is one of the small series of mobile phone games based around the Breath of Fire Series, Breath of Fire IV: Yōsei-tachi to Hikari no Kagi was exclusively released in Japan by Capcom in 2009.
The game focuses on the characters from Breath of Fire IV such as Nina and Ryu trying to help the Faeries recover the Key of Light that was taken from them. The player must go through ten dungeons, each dungeon having holding a piece of the light key. The player also just like in Breath of Fire IV; will keep up a Faerie village.
The battle sequences in Breath of Fire IV: Yōsei-tachi to Hikari no Kagi are all real-time, enemies will appear from the left of the screen. The player can use either Nina or Ryu to defeat the enemies. Nina specialises in magic where Ryu focuses on physical attacks. Along with the enemies the player must avoid traps in the dungeons as well. The faerie village plays a big part of the game and is not optional like in Breath of Fire IV. The player has more power over the growth of the village, such as an the ability to choose where houses go. The game also has on-screen indicator that tells the player the amount of faeries they have.
