- Main article: Bunyan (Breath of Fire III)
Ryu, Rei, and Teepo attempt to rob Bunyan but he catches them and holds them prisoner. Bunyan agrees to let them all go if Rei heads to Mt. Glaus to defeat the Nue. He has Ryu and Teepo stay behind to work for him by chopping wood. After completing their task, Ryu and Teepo are released, and follow Rei to Mt. Glaus. After the party is defeated by Balio and Sunder, Bunyan finds Ryu in the woods and nurses him back to health. Afterwards, Bunyan becomes a Master.
