The Goddess Keys are a set of magically powered keys that were used to seal away the goddess Tyr. They are also capable of breaking said seal.

Story[]

With the goddess sealed away, the keys were separated and placed in different locations throughout the world. Zog made it his mission to reunite the keys and release the goddess Tyr (also known as Myria). He succeeded in doing so (through Jade) but was defeated, along with the goddess, by Ryu and his party. Although it commonly believed that there are a total of six Goddess Keys, there is actually a seventh which is housed in the room that the party falls into after defeating Zog. However, the name of this seventh key is unknown.

— Manual description

The TmKey (ときのかぎ, Toki no Kagi?, lit. "Time Key") was originally housed in Tunlan but later stolen by Cerl. Its power was used in Tock to freeze the people of Carmen.

It seems that time and space distort as a side effect when the key's owner is under intense emotional duress. Three such instances occur in the game:

  • Cerl finding out that Alan is in Carmen, resurfacing mixed emotions about her past.
  • Cerl meeting face-to-face with Alan again and suppressing her current feelings.
  • Nina's desperation after the Time Key becomes stuck in the machine in Tock.
