I II III IV V VI

Plains, also referred to in game dialogue as the Golden Plains is a location that appears in Breath of Fire IV. They are a large tract of grasslands situated in the eponymous Gold Plains region of the Eastern Continent. Due to the Plains' sheer size, animals such as horses or whelks are often used as preferred mode of transportation. Several local rock formations and the flight patterns of birds are often used as reference points by the Woren when they provide instructions as to how to navigate the plains.

The plains are also home of the nomadic Tarhn as well as the grass dragon Ch'o Ryong. Furthermore, they need to be traversed to reach the bordering areas of Mount Glom and Shrine.

Ryu and the party decide to traverse the Plains to seek out Cray's mother Tarhn, after the events at the Causeway, which led to Cray being held in custody by Ludia. After seeking the counsel of the three wise men in Worent, Ryu befriends a local whelk and proceeds to the plains.

Gold Plains Whelkriding

Ryu mastering the intricate art of whelk riding.

After a steep learning curve in whelk riding, Ryu manages to ride the otherwise stubborn animal and eventually reaches Tarhn's camp. Ryu explains the situation and mentions the broken King's Sword. Tarhn mentions the smith who forged the original sword at Mt. Glom.

Subsequently, Ryu traverses the Plains once again, leaving them southwards to reach the volcano in order to have a replica of the sword made which they plan to present to the Prince Morley.

After Ryu and the party free Cray from Ludian custody, the traverse the plains once more, returning to Tarhn first. After a brief reunion, Tarhn hands out the Jadestone and points the party to the Shrine, which can be traversed in order to reach the Wyndia Region.

Following the events of Chek, Ryu and the party once again return to the plains and Tarhn so Ryu can meet with the grass dragon Ch'o Ryong.
