Strategy[]

Scylla is fought alongside Charybdis and Gisshan. However, Charybdis and Scylla do most of the fighting, while Gisshan serves a support function. As creatures of fire, ice is their weakness, so using Nina's Iceblast and Momo equipped with the Ice Chrysm deals good damage to both. A clever tactic here is to use the Trygon form (Flame + Frost + Thunder), as Trygon will have the frost properties needed, but will also be immune to Charybdis' and Scylla's Wall of Fire due to its fire properties, meaning only physical attacks and Snap can do any harm to Ryu. If using Garr instead of Nina or Momo, he should use physical attacks, possibly enhanced with Focus if he has it. Plus his flame immunity allows him to resist most of the damage. Peco is best left out of this fight, as his flame resistance isn't very high, making him a liability. Having equipped the Ring of Fire/Magma Armor/Asbestos Armor can reduce if not outright nullify any fire-based damage, making fighting them considerably easier.

The fastest way of winning the battle is by placing Ryu in the front position of the attack formation. Immediately transform him into a regular Behemoth and use Blitz. This attack hits all enemies three times, with each hit doing 150 - 200 damage for a total of 450 - 600 damage per enemy per use. Through this method, it is possible to win the battle in just three turns.

Etymology[]

Scylla is named after Scylla from the Odyssey. Charyb and Scylla are similar to their mythological counterparts as both groups of monsters are responsible for guarding a narrow passage.
