The Ventriloquist is a recurring character who appears throughout the Breath of Fire series. She uses is easily recognized by her signature outfit and her monstrous puppet. She combines ventriloquism and puppetry into a unique form of performance art where she explains the mechanics of the game to the player.
Role in Breath of Fire IV[]
The Ventriloquist essentially functions as the game's in-game tutorial. She begins by explaining some of the game's fundamental elements when the party first encounters her in Sarai and explains more complex mechanics and strategies as the player progresses and meets her in new towns. When the parter encounters her in Shyde, she teaches them the Shift ability which serves as the game's form of fast travel, allowing the player to instantly teleport to locations on the overworld that they have previously visited.
Role in Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter[]
The Ventriloquist once again explains a number of the game's mechanics to the player. She also fills the role of merchant in Junk City.
Role in Breath of Fire 6[]
In this game the Ventriloquist is one of the many residents of Dragnier Village. She explains some of the basic elements of gameplay to the player.
